Time to clean up Jefferson Davis County

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for the first meeting of the month Monday morning at the board room in Prentiss. The meeting opened with prayer by Rev. Jessie Holloway before the minutes were approved.

The board deemed March and April as Clean-Up Awareness Months for Jefferson Davis County.

“Litter is a constant battle in this county,” said Jefferson Davis County Board President Michael Evans. “We need everyone to come together and make an effort to alleviate this problem,” he said.

The Board suggests that every neighborhood in the county take the initiative to pick up trash, move non-running vehicles and fix up neighborhoods. They are also challenging churches and their congregations, schools and their staff and students and businesses and their employees to participate.

“Every day is a good day to help keep our county clean,” said District 3 Supervisor Demarrio Booth.

Les Dungan reviewed the county’s Flood Plain Ordinance in the County Engineer Report.

He also announced the county received $286,000 from a grant for the 1.8 million dollar Sumrall Road bridge project in District 3. 

The board approved the appointment of Shanell Williamson to the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital Board of Trustees for District 3.

The board denied employee action forms for the Sheriff’s Department.

Board attorney Wes Daughdrill gave his monthly report.

In other board news, the board approved the following without opposition before entering into executive session and adjourning:

• Approved minutes.

• Approved applying for permit to Longleaf Trace from Rosenwald Building.

• Approved Board President signing letter to U. S. Bank of liability insurance for Justice Complex.

• Approved public records request for purchasing information from Oct. 28, 2024 ,to present from SmartProcure.

• Approved quote to P.J. Automotive for $941.66 for tire and assembly in District 4.

• Approved quote to Robbin’s Body Shop for $3076.80 for vehicle body repair of a patrol car for the  Sheriff’s Department.

• Approved accepting funds for Sumrall Road ERBR, open an account with Whitney Hancock, and transferring funds from General County Account to the ERBR account.

• Approved refunds to purchasers for five parcels erroneously sold at land sale.

• Approved purchase clerk advertising for cold mix for the remainder of 2025.

• Approved overage on purchase order for District 2 for $20.27.

• Approved employees attending meetings & conventions.

• Approved use of county vehicle of Supervisors attending JDC Championship Basketball Game.

• Approved employee action forms for District 2.

• Approved claims.
