Supervisors award cold mix bid at first April meeting

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for the first meeting of the month Monday morning at the board room in Prentiss. The meeting opened with prayer by Rev. Jessie Holloway before the minutes were approved.
Plez Armstrong, Brenda Armstrong and Latoya Bass met with the board after receiving a letter to remove a fence from a public road near their property. Board attorney Wes Daughdrill informed the family that it was in fact a public road and it was unlawful to place a fence across it essentially closing the road. The family agreed to remove the fence.
Erica Smith with Kids Hub gave an update on their efforts in the county and gave a word of thanks to the board for its support.
Jefferson Davis Economic Development Director Gary Bass and JDC Miss Hospitality Mariah Evans gave an update of Evans’ preparations for the state competition in Hattiesburg in July.
The board held a bid opening for cold mix. There was only one bid submitted. Dunn Roadbuilders was awarded the job at a cost of $148.25 per ton.
Jefferson Davis County Emergency Management Director Jocelyn Ragsdale gave a storm update and reported there has still been no federal storm declaration for Jefferson Davis County.
County engineer Les Dungan and attorney Wes Daughdrill gave their monthly reports.
In other board news, the board approved the following without opposition before it entered into executive session and adjourned.
•Approved minutes.
•Approved public records request for purchasing information from Try Star Jump.
•Approved spreading into the minutes a letter of support for the T-Mobile Hometown Grant.
•Approved spreading into the minutes a tax loss reimbursement from the Department of Revenue.
•Approved refund on parcels from land sale; homestead was deleted in error.
•Approved school bus turnarounds in District 2 at 520 Alex Daley Road and District 3 at 1045 Sumrall Road and 75 Green Keys Lane.
•Approved employees attending conventions and meetings.
•Approved employee action forms for Chancery Clerk, Sheriff’s Department, District 2 and District 3.
•Approved acceptance of salvage value of 2011 Dodge Charger totaled due to March 15 tornado and Board President signing title, Power of Attorney to transfer motor vehicle and Odometer Disclosure Statement.
•Approved acceptance of 2009 Silverado pickup from Mississippi Department of Transportation for the Sheriff’s Department and adding to inventory and insurance.
•Approved deleting from inventory Asset #1940, 2011 Dodge Charger, from Sheriff’s Department.
•Approved payment of invoices to Mississippi Public Entity Workers Comp Trust for $5,167.00; Penn Real Estate for $2,500.00 (Mt. Zion property); Pittman Howdeshell for Invoice 1685 for $1,271.55 and Invoice 1708 for $1,198.90 for the Mt. Zion property; Pearl River Valley Opportunity for $5000.00 (yearly allotment); Fisher Brown Bottrell for $57,968.63 (hospital property insurance policy) and the Jefferson Davis County Youth Baseball Park for $19,889.00 (swing set).
•Approved use of credit card by District 2 for fuel after March 15 storm – barn did not have electricity.
•Approved termite renewal for the library for $190.00.
•Approved third quarter appropriations for Sheriff’s Department for $267,745.28; Jail for $172,778.82 and the Tax Assessor for $85,930.17.
•Approved claims.
