A historical marker dedication service will be held Saturday on the Prentiss Institute campus.

The dedication will take place at 10 a.m. at the Rosenwald Building.

The historical marker was approved by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and will give a brief history of the college.

“This sign will call attention to the historical nature of the property and bring notoriety to visitors in the area,” said Jefferson Davis County Economic Development Director Gary Bass.

Freedom Rider and Civil Rights Activist Thomas Armstrong donated $1,000 to the effort through his non-profit organization Foot Soldiers Journey to start off the fundraising drive for the sign in August 2023.
