Funeral services for Mr. John Edward “Jack” Morton were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel with Father Tomasz Golab officiating.
Interment followed in the Bassfield Cemetery.
Mr. Morton, age 91, passed away Monday evening, April 21, 2025, at his home in Bassfield.
Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family received friends the day of the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.
Jim Applewhite, Carl LaRosa, Jerry Terrell, Kennis Thompson, Nathan Womboldt and Bobby Womboldt served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included Morris Thompson, Charles Loftin, Louis William King, Cahill Harrington, Charlie Harrington and Jimmy Harrington.
John Edward Morton was born on June 1, 1933, to Forrest Raymond and Mary Bernard Harrington Morton.
After he graduated from high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force.
A lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, he owned and operated Morton (Napa) Auto Parts in Bassfield for 62 years.
In addition to gardening, his family relates that he was also passionate about his dogs.
Mr. Morton was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Morton he is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Billie Sue Morton, and his children Carla Elaine Morton, Tara Bailey and Taylor Morton.
He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Ray Morton, Caroline Morton LaRosa and Patsy Morton Wambolt.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Beverly Calhoun Morton of Bassfield and his children, Edward Morton (Juanita) of Carson; Tammy Fagan (Belton) of Carson and Jaclyn Clark (Travis) of Sumrall.
He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
