Storm debris removal begins this week

The Jefferson Davis Board of Supervisors met Monday morning for the second meeting of June. District 2 Supervisor Ricky Barrett offered prayer before the meeting was called to order and the agenda was approved.

County engineer Les Dungan gave his report and discussed locations for road reseal. He introduced the group selected to handle the clean-up and monitoring and they held a kick-off meeting to make a plan of action for the storm debris removal.

Looks Great Services from Columbia won the bid for debris removal and Mapco Services of Gulfport won the bid for monitoring.

Storm debris removal will begin Wednesday.

Lakeylah White with Grants Unlimited and Andrew Smith with the HOME Program gave an overview of their services.

The county will have to select a new administrator for the HOME Program in the wake of the death of former administrator Dr. James Smith.

The board approved advertising for the administrator position for the HOME program as well as approved letters to Mississippi Home Corporation advising them of the advertisement and request for grant files held by Sunbelt.

Circuit clerk Clint Langley and Justice Court clerk Latonya Blanchard requested information regarding new employees in both offices.

Board attorney Wes Daughdrill and accountant Cathy Slocum provided monthly reports.

In other board news, the board approved the following without opposition before entering into executive session and adjourning:

•Approved minutes.

•Approved adding MDOT state-maintained right of ways for cleanup of the March 15 storms.

•Approved spreading into the minutes a public records request from American Transparency.

•Approved school bus turnarounds at 376 Stubbs Road dand 23 Zula Lane in District 3.

•Approved spreading into the minutes four Employee Action Forms for the Sheriff’s Department.

•Approved employees attending meetings and conventions.

• Approved Board President signing memo from Judge Harrell for pay increase for staff attorney and court administrator.

• Approved spreading into the minutes an order from Judge Touchstone setting salary/compensation for Court Reporter.

• Approved reimbursement to employees.

• Approved overage on purchase order to Dunn Roadbuilders for cold mix in District 2.

• Approved payment of invoice to Pittman Howdeshell for the Mt. Zion Rd Bridge Replacement Project for $213.73.

• Approved credit card report and payment.

• Approved Fuelman report and payment of the same.

• Approved spreading into the minutes Housing of Prisoners Report for the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Lawrence County Sheriff;s Department, Mt. Olive Police Department and Town of Prentiss.

• Approved dates for open enrollment for health insurance, August 19 and 20.

• Approvedd fire extinguishers annual inspections

• Approvedd claims.
