Whitesand bridge at Granby Road now open for travel

- Holley Cochran / The Prentiss Headlight—The new bridge over Whitesand Creek just before Granby Road in Prentiss is now complete and open for travel.
Work is now complete on the $4.5 million bridge replacement project on State Route 184 over Whitesand Creek just outside of Prentiss at Granby Road.
“Construction season is already in full swing in southwest Mississippi, and crews are making significant progress throughout the region, particularly on some of the larger resurfacing and bridge replacement projects,” said MDOT Southern Transportation District Commissioner Charles Busby.
“Infrastructure upgrades like these make our communities safer and better connected while positioning our state for future growth and prosperity, he said.

MDOT District 7 Construction Engineer Jordan Wittington announced the closure at a Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors meeting last year and MDOT officially closed the road March 14 ,2024.
JDC County Engineer Les Dungan was initially concerned with the lack of an on-site detour considering such a lengthy closure. After much discussion regarding safety, MDOT made a temporary connection from Highway 184 to Highway 84. That connection is now closed.
The project replaced the bridge, resurfaced the roadway and widened the turn at Granby Road.
The project was awarded and completed by N.L. Carson Construction of Carthage
MDOT has now turned that section of the road back over to the county for maintenance.
