Funeral services for Miss Mattie Lou Burrow were conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Prentiss with interment following in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Miss Burrow, age 88, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Sunday morning, July 20, 2025, at the Jefferson Davis Extended Care Facility in Prentiss. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
The family received friends Tuesday morning at Oak Grove Baptist Church, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Mattie Lou was carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Gregg Bullock, Triggs Armstrong, Sheldon Armstrong, Wes Armstrong, Darrell Williams and Christian Chism.
Mattie Lou Burrow was born on Sept. 24, 1936, in Jefferson Davis County to John Augustus and Carrie Yates Burrow.
She was a student in the Prentiss School System during her youth.
As an adult, Mattie Lou worked for several years at the New Hebron Manufacturing Company, owned and operated by the L.S. Steverson family.
During her years in the group home, she was a consistent worker in the workshop on Columbia Avenue.
Mattie loved church music and enjoyed group singing during church.
She also spent hours coloring in books friends gave her. She was most precise with her colors and stayed within the lines.
Her taste for “bling” bordered on gaudy-the flashier, the better. Actually, there may be some on her hands today.
Past and present staff members at the Group Home all have Mattie Lou stories to share, as do her family members.
Mattie Lou will be missed by her friends and family.
Mattie Lou is preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Carrie Burrow; brother, Rex Burrow; niece, Mona Hudson; nephew, Chuck Barrow; and her brother-in-law, Ross Armstrong.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her sisters, Sue Armstrong, Shirley McCraw (Tommy); sister-in-law, Janet Gachassin (Don); nieces, Mitzi Bullock (Gregg), Sondra Burrow, Sherry K. Castile (Chris); nephews, Chip Burrow, Wayne McCraw, Barry Armstrong (Tonya), Drew McCraw (Christi) and a host of great-nieces and nephews. Mattie Lou also leaves behind her friends, the staff of Willow Bend Group Home, who cared for Mattie for 25 years. They loved her and she loved them.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Jefferson Davis County Community Hospital and the Jefferson Davis Extended Care Facility.
