The Jefferson Davis County School District has had a suc¬cessful start of the new school year. Students reported to class July 28.

“We are certainly ready to work with the boys and girls in Jefferson Davis County and are motivated to have an outstanding year,” said Jefferson Davis County Superintendent Ike Haynes.

“We plan to be back to the basics of focusing our school day on reading, writing and math,” he said.

Haynes feels there is nothing more important than the old school approach and that Jagtime and after school tutorial can’t be depended on to get the job done.

“This year we are going to make sure the instructors are teaching from bell to bell, that we have high quality lesson plans carried out with fidelity and have student engagement free of classroom management issues and free of any distractions,” he said.
