Murphy’s Law kicked in this weekend with The Prentiss Headlight e-mail system totally shutting down. If it can go wrong, it most certainly does around here. So, if you sent anything to us via e-mail between Friday and Sunday evenings and you have not heard from us, please re-send.

In this time of giving thanks, I am thankful for email, and other things that may seem inconsequential but that mean so much.

Take for instance the newly installed reflectors that have been embedded in the pavement of some of the dangerous curves on our rural roads. For those of us who cannot half see, this is a huge improvement.

One man on Granby Road had complained that drivers were losing control in a sharp curve approaching his house, one time even landing in his front yard. The county remedied the situation with visible pavement reflectors and repainting of the divider stripes. The traffic has slowed down and the boundaries are clearly defined for all drivers.

Another great little thing (maybe not so little) are churches whose members volunteer time and money to local students. Several churches have been quite creative in their service to God and man by purchasing computers for students and offering tutoring sessions, like St. Paul M.B.Church,  Holly Springs CME, Mt. Zion M.B. Church and Jeff Davis Outreach Ministeries.  As Superintendent Haynes reminded us this week, “It takes a village” to raise a child.

Finally, I am thankful that  Egg Nog is finally back on grocery shelves.  I’ve waited all year for you my friend and now you’re finally here. Welcome back.

It’s the little things that make my not-so-little waistline and life so very happy.
