Upward Basketball ended its second annual season with an awards celebration Saturday. The kids were recognized for their basketball skills, Bible verse memory work and good sportsmanship.
Covington-Jefferson Davis Baptist Association Director of Missions Tommy Broom encouraged the kids to continue to practice the skills they learned on and off the court and encouraged parents to pass Christian values to their children. Every player received an Upward DVD and a basketball of their own and were treated to a chili hot dog feast.
“I thank the parents for bringing their children and all those who volunteered their time and talents to make this Upward Basketball program a success,” stated DOM Tommy Broom. “It has been a great venue to bring community members together for fun and fellowship with one another and stress skills in lifestyle as well as sports. We look forward to an even bigger season next year.”
Upward Basketball is a structured volunteer led program that teaches basics of the sport to K4-6th grade children along with self-esteem and positive life lessons.
