Steven Donnell Womack

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, 2014, at St. Paul MB Church, Bassfield, for MSG Steven Donnell Womack, age 41, who died Thursday, April 24, in Covington County, MS. Rev. Henry L. Kelly officiated with interment following in the Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
MSG Steven Donnell Womack was born to the late Robert L. and Gloria Jean Womack Flowers in Laurel. He joined Sweetwater CME Church at an early age; he later united with St. Paul MB Church where he remained a faithful member until death.
MSG Steven Womack graduated from Bassfield High School in 1990. He enlisted in the Army in August 1991, completing Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Gordon, GA.
Upon completion of AIT, he was assigned to the 22nd Personal Service Battalion, Ft. Lewis, WA, where he served as a 31K Combat Signal Specialist. Since then he had held all leadership positions from squad leader to first sergeant.
MSG Womack’s professional military education and achievements included: Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course; Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course; Battle Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Course; Army Basic Instructor Course and the Standardized COMSEC Custodian Course. His awards and declarations include the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (30LC); Army Commendation Medal (50LC); Army Achievement Medal (50LC); Good Conduct Medal (6th Award); Army Superior Unit Award; Overseas Service Ribbon; Armed Forces Service Ribbon; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (w/numeral 3); National Defense Service Ribbon; Nato Service Ribbon; Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Armed Forces Exp Medal. MSG Womack served 21 years of service in the Armed Forces.
He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from Central Texas College and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Alcorn State University. He was employed as the Senior Military Instructor of ROTC at Alcorn State University until he retired in September 2012.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Booth.
He is survived by wife, Lesonjo Reese Womack; two sons, Deshawn Womack and Steven Womack, Jr.; six daughters, Kierra Oatis, Zikeria Daniels, Ebonie S. Womack, Aysha Womack, Kelsey Womack and Kianna Merritt; two brothers, Bourbon (Tina) Womack of Bassfield, Micheal (Ruby) Drake of Magee; three sisters, Samantha (Donald) Strong of Bassfield, Pammy Cook of Ocean Springs, and Sherri L. Womack of Bassfield; seven grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
