On Tuesday December 15, 2015 the Twentieth Century Club of Prentiss held its annual Christmas get together at the Prentiss United Methodist Church fellowship hall.  Upon arrival the guests and members snacked on tasty shrimp dip and a southern seasonal favorite, hot spice fruit tea.  Once the buffet table was loaded club member Tina McPhail formally welcomed everyone and blessed the food.  The entries for the evening were outstanding.  They consisted of everything from scrumptious pork tenderloins to a knocked out string bean casserole.  The dessert bar was not too shabby either with  pecan pie, fresh apple cake, fruity banana pudding and a couple other delights I regrettably did not get to sample.

Of coarse the dining tables were decorated with a holiday flare.  The tablecloths were white with a large centerpiece of fresh evergreen sprigs, brightly colored Christmas balls and a hurricane lamp encasing a large red candle.  A wide piece of red ribbon served as a runner down the length of the table.  For this special night some of the members had brought their Christmas china to be used.

When the forks were retired club member Janie Winscott treated the group to an emotional recitation of the Christmas Story from the Book of Luke.  The evening’s entertainment was presented by William “Big Shot” Stephens.  He waltzed a baby grand piano across the floor playing a selection of seasonal Christmas tunes intertwined with a couple of heart touching stories about his mom and dad.  William played with such strong feelings his music seems to envelope and devour the crowd.

Tracy Waits closed the evening with a lovely thankful prayer for Jesus’ birth.

Personally, I thought the evening was one of the most enjoyable Christmas programs I have ever attended and when I left the building I was definitely in the Christmas Spirit.
