Wood receives doctorate

Pene’ Gray Woods conferred the Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas College On May 7, 2016 at 10a.m. at the Caldwell Auditorium in Tyler, Texas,
Pene’ Gray Woods, a native of Carson, Mississippi was conferred with the highest academic honor – the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters – for leadership, service, achievement and inspiration. In accepting this honor on at the commencement,
Dr. Woods, remarks to the Class of 2016 were: “You have a chance to write the script of your life; nothing is guaranteed, but everything is possible.”
Dr. Woods is the daughter of Mr. Wardell Gray and the late Quillie Ross Gray (former educator in the Jefferson Davis School System); the granddaughter of the late Will and Mary Gray or Carson and the late Willie and Beulah Ross of Prentiss, MS.
She is married to Curtis Woods and they currently reside in Cordova, Tennessee where Dr. Woods is President/CEO of Equitable Wisdom LLC.
Dr. Woods has served on the Texas College Board of Trustees since 2001 and is a part of the Building and Grounds, Student Affairs and Investment Committees.
Texas College has just completed the first phase of a $21 million new dormitory construction and renovation of other campus facilities.
Dr. Woods created the Quillie Ross Gray scholarship fund over 4 years ago in honor of her mother’s commitment to education. Contributions can be sent to Texas College at 2404 North Grand Avenue, Tyler, TX 75702-1962.
