Climentine T. Barnes

Mrs. Climentine Taylor Barnes, 69, died Thursday August 4, 2016 at the Marion General Hospital in Columbia. Services for Mrs. Barnes were held on Saturday August 13, 2016 at the Shady Grove M. B. Church, where Rev. Michael Smith is Pastor, with Pastor Kelvin Russell of Morning Star M.B. Church officiating. Interment was in the Church’s cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of all arrangements.

Mrs. Barnes was the youngest child born to the late Jim Taylor and the late Ezra Lee Warner Taylor of Silver Creek. At an early age, she joined the Shady Grove Church and remained a faithful member until her death. Mrs. Barnes served her Lord and church as a Deaconess, President of the Baptist Training Union, Program Committee Chairman, Mission Society President, Finance Secretary, Choir member, Usher, and Secretary for the Lawrence County Usher Convention.

In 1967, Mrs. Barnes married Mitchell Barnes of Silver Creek and to this union three wonderful sons were born, all of whom developed into successful loving family men.

Mrs. Barnes was reared and educated in the Lawrence County area, Graduating from McCullough High School in Monticello, prior to attending Prentiss Institute. In addition to being an outstanding wife and mother, Mrs. Barnes worked to help support her family at Kellwood, Home Health and as an Insurance agent for Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barnes’ survivors include her husband of fortynine years, Mitchell Barnes; three sons, Preston (Jackie) Barnes of Atlanta, GA James (Nicole) Barnes of Spanish Fort, AL, and Al (Sheena) Barnes of Silver Creek; two brothers, Jimmy (Ray Jean) Taylor and Jesse (Armanda) Taylor, both of Oakland, CA; two sisters, Bobby Barnes of South Holland, IL and Margret (Davis) Peyton of Lincoln, CA; six grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
