Funeral services were held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at New Jerusalem Church, Bassfield, Mississippi for Mrs. Mary Jane Harper Butler, 72, who died Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Regional Medical Center, San Jose, CA.  Pastor, Melvin Hudson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Jane Butler was born to the late Charlie and Etha Mae Buckley Harper.  She attended New Branch of Zion Church of God in Christ, Oakland, CA. She met and married Prince Butler of Bassfield, Mississippi and three children were born to this union.  She moved to California where she lived the remainder of her life.  She became a caregiver.  She is survived by: one son, David W. Harper of Bassfield, MS; two daughters, Carolyn Butler of Salinas, CA and Kathy Butler of San Jose, CA; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchild; two brothers, Willie Lee Harper of San Jose, CA and Leversey Harper of Hattiesburg, MS; three sisters, Ira Jean (Shelton) Lewis of Hattiesburg, MS; Mattie (Earl) Bass of Bassfield, MS and Leola Griffith of Bassfield, MS; two sisters-in-law, Laura (Lafayette) Harper of Hattiesburg, MS; Virginia Polk of Prentiss, MS; one brother-in-law, Ledrew Butler of Prentiss, MS; many other relatives and friends.
