Doris L. Barnes

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Sweetwater C.M.E. Church for Mrs. Doris Louise Harper Barnes “Mama D”, 76, who died Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Oscher Hospital, Jefferson, LA.  Rev. Wiliam James Harper, officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doris Barnes was the second child born to the late Alfed and Rosie Harper.  She joined Sweetwater C.M.E. Church at an early age and remained until her death.  She attended Harper and Carver High School in Bassfield, MS.  Mrs. Barnes worked at KLH and Sanderson Farms for many years.  She was married to the late Charles Barnes, they were blessed with seven children.

She was preceded in death by: two sons, Willie Charles Barnes and Murray Barnes; brother, T. J. Harper and one sister-in-law, Emma Harper.

She is survived by: three daughters, Trenis Jones of Picayune, MS; Rev. Sheila (Melvin) Varnado of Bassfield, MS and Sarah (Alton) Cook of Columbia, MS; two sons, Charles J. (Carolyn) Barnes and Donald (Teresa) Barnes both of Bassfield, MS; one brother, Rev. William J. (Luevell) Harper of Gufport, MS; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
