And just like that, election day has arrived.

Although most elections have usually “worn out their welcome” by the time election day arrives, this one has been particularly bombarding.

Every time I think about our future and the world my grandchildren might grow up in, I become disheartened.

It didn’t take long to decide which candidate would receive my vote, but it just doesn’t feel like sunshine and roses.

I can’t help but feel like our country has now jumped on board a train that will eventually derail.

It reminds me of the demise of small town America. Everyone couldn’t wait for the next best thing. Everyone jumped ship and followed the leader, leaving us with empty storefronts and ghost towns.

Things have a way of coming full-circle, and now the trend is small town boutiques and mom and pop businesses. The only problem is, most closed down due to lack of business. Can we build the small towns back again?

Which leads me to the more pertinent question, “Can we get our country back again”? or will it become “too far gone?”

Why do we wait until the “knee-jerk” until we put our foot down? Why not stop  before it gets too bad?

We seem to have a problem with not ending things before they get terrible. Wouldn’t be as big a mess to clean up if we stopped making the mess to begin with.

By the time you read this column, the election will be over and maybe we can move on with a new president.

Maybe not.

I read somewhere this could be as close as the 2000 election. That was the year dimpled, pregnant and hanging chads were born. What a mess.

I hope it doesn’t take weeks to declare a winner. I’m not sure we could take much more.

I have seen several good memes on social media regarding the election. One of my favorites is “It doesn’t matter who is president, because Jesus is King.”

This morning, I saw a new one: “Keep clam and trust God to handle it.”

I believe I will…because He said to.
