Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at St. Paul M. B. Church, in Bassfield, for Clarence Hinton, 68, who died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. Rev. Henry Kelly officiated with interment following in the Taylor Cemetery in Carson.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Hinton was born to the late Robert and Velma Mae Hinton in Bassfield.  He was a 1968 graduate of Carver High School. He served in the United States Army. He was a former laborer with the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He was an active member of St. Paul M. B. Church where he served as an usher and pastor’s usher.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George Hinton; sister, Nathaniel Nelson; daughter, Vanessa Hinton, and brother-in-law, Eddie McClendon.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hinton of Bassfield; daughters, Schniece Hinton and Lakeisha Hinton, both of New Orleans, Louisiana; Angie Thompson, Kizzy Thompson and Vicktory Thompson, all of Bassfield; son, Rodney Watts of St. Paul, Minnesota; sisters, Jessie M. McClendon of Oakvale, and Dorothy Hinton of Gulfport; two adopted children; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchilden; and devoted friend, Robert Hinton.
