The Annie Lou Hayman Quilting Club presented a beautiful hand-made quilt to Whitesand Baptist Church for use in its newly furnished visiting evangelist’s quarters in the educational building. Betty Bridges states the quilt pattern is called Rail Fence and is a beautiful but old-fashioned pattern.

Organized in 2002 the members of the quilters club have been busy working their magic with nimble fingers on numerous quilts for the public as well as many lap quilts donated to cancer victims. The club has met in several homes but presently have their special quilting room in Whitesand Baptist Church. Funds received from their labors go to missions and special church projects. Members include Betty Bridges, Peggy Bass, Frances Bridges, Sis Douglas, Mary Martha Berry, Hazel Bridges, Nancy Hayman, Juanita Evans, Sheree Jimmerson, Stephenie Hayman and Mabel Bass.

Most club members are widows and say quilting together has been such wonderful therapy to combat loneliness. Conversations flies as fast as their needle and thread varying from children and grandchildren, recent events and favorite remembrances.

The ALHQC meets weekly and the experienced quilters help guide the lesser experienced and there are always snack and lunch breaks. Betty Bridges says from beginning to finished quilt takes about three months. Some bring tops for them to quilt, and some are done from start to finish. T-shirt quilts have also been very popular.

The ladies agree they have developed wonderful relationships and have a good time while working at something they love to do.
