Funeral services were held Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Sweetwater C.M.E. Church, Bassfield for Mr. Elgusta Hathorn, 86, who died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at his residence.  Rev. Dr. Charles Holbrook, pastor, officiated with burial following in the Owen-Griffith Cemetery, Bassfield.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Elgusta Hathorn was born in Lamar County to the late Lafe and Della Hathorn.  He was a member of Sweetwater C. M. E. Church where he formerly served on the Steward Board for several years.

Mr. Hathorn was a sharecropper later worked in local lumber company and later became a fork-lift driver and over-the road truck driver.  Mr. Hathorn later worked for Jefferson Davis County Beat 3 road crew.

He was preceded in death by: siblings, Jay Hathorn, Elvie Hathorn, Mary R. Echols, Verdie Buckley, Hazel Hathorn and Dorothy Hathorn.

He is survived by: three children, Legusta (Carolyn) Hathorn of D’Iberville; Peggy Hathorn-Booth of Bassfield, and Jackie Hathorn of Hattiesburg; stepson, Dr. Willie B. Price, Jr. of Minneapolis, Minnesota; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
