Fannie M. J. Durr

Funeral services were held Monday, March 27, 2017, at Silver Creek M. B. Church, New Hebron,for Mrs. Fannie Mae Jackson Durr, 89, who died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Jeff Davis Community Hospital.  Rev. Ronnie Walker, pastor, officiated with burial following in the Oak Grove M. B. Church Cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fannie Mae “Fan” Jackson Durr was born to the late Matthew and Emma White Jackson in Prentiss.  She was married to the late William T. Durr and was a member of Oak Grove M. B. Church where she was active in the Mission Society, vocal choir, and served as secretary and treasurer of the church. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho.  Mrs. Durr formerly worked at Sophia Sutton Head Start and later Magnetek until she retired.

She was preceded in death by: four brothers, Reuben Jackson, E. M. Jackson, Junior Jackson and Henry Jackson; four sisters, Earlene Pittman, Odell Keller, Irene Durr and Marian Ansley; daughter-in-law, Ruby Jewel Durr.

She is survived by: three sons, Willie J. Durr of New Hebron; Maurice (Linda) Durr and Alexis L. Durr both of Jackson; five daughters, Joyce (Benny) Brown of Hattiesburg; Ruby P. Durr and Linda P. Durr both of Jackson, Shirley J. (Larry) Freeman of Amite, Louisiana and Tewannee D. Mitchell of Daleville, Alabama; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edgar Jackson and D. J. (Elizabeth) Jackson of Prentiss; sister, Mary M. Dean of Mt. Olive; many other relatives and friends.
