Prentiss’s application for small government public facilities funds through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program has been approved by the Mississippi Development Authority. The amount awarded is $449,959 and will be effective Oct. 2.
“This funding demonstrates the Town of Prentiss’s commitement to community needs in Mississippi. I commend you for this initiative to improve the quality of life in your community,” said Governor Phil Bryant.
Funds will be used for a new water well, replacing the outdated one.
“We’re thankful to the governor and the Mississippi Development Authority for the money needed to complete this project. A viable water system is essential to the quality of life for the citizens of Prentiss,” said Prentiss Mayor Charley Dumas.
“Our system has consistently received perfect scores from the state and we realize the importance of providing the necessary upgrades to sustain it.”
The Mississippi Development Authority offers a variety of grant and loan programs that help sustain Mississippi communities and enable them to improve quality of life in their areas.
The federally-funded CDBG program helps communities realize their potential by providing funds necessary to ensure basic community services, environmental quality and economic opportunities for their residents.
In Mississippi, the CDBG program makes funds available to incorporated municipalities and county governments that show a genuine need for specific projects and can meet the program’s state and federal eligibility requirements.
The public facilities category of the CDBG makes available funding for public improvements such as water, wastewater, drainage, streets and certain public buildings.
