Dorothy Hathorn Polk

Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at Sweetwater C.M.E. Church for Mrs. Dorothy “Sis” Hathorn Polk, 82, who died Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 at Forrest General Hospital in  Hattiesburg.  Rev. Marcus McLaurin officiated with Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dorothy Polk was born to the late Charlie and Hattie Hathorn in Prentiss.

She attended Haw Pond and Prentiss Normal Institute in Prentiss, Mississippi.

She later worked as a caregiver at Sanatorium in Magee.

She was a member of Washington Chapel C.M.E. Church in Gulfport, Mississippi and later joined Sweetwater C.M.E. Church in Prentiss where she was a member of bible study and served as missionary and stewardess.

Mrs. Polk was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Erwin Polk, three sons, Freddie Hathorn, Curtis McInnis and Lee Anthony Polk; one daughter, Sherry Magee, two granddaughters, Yshaneeta Magee and Olivia Otis; five sisters and six brothers, one of which was her twin.

She is survived by four daughters, Linda (John) Brown of Hattiesburg; Agrean Clark of Lumberton; Janet McInnis and Towana (Mickey) Booth of Prentiss; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen grandchildren; one daughter reared as her own, Renee (Wilbur) Myers of Bassfield; three adopted children, Jemika, Tazanisha and Jakiya Polk all of Prentiss; three god-children, Teddrick (Ulenda) Polk of Magee, Shamika Hathorn of Prentiss and Marilyn Washington of Gulfport and many other relatives and friends.
