Essie Lee Barnes

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. Essie Lee Barnes, 98, who died Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation, Southfield, Michigan.
Rev. Duane Hill officiated with interment following in the Griffith Cemetery in Prentiss.
Mr. Essie Lee Barnes was born on Nov. 18, 1922, in Prentiss. He was the oldest of two children born to Frank and Geneva Barnes.
He served in the United States Navy for four years.
He then worked as a longshoreman for 29 years before retiring on Dec. 1, 1984.
Mr. Barnes met and married Dollie Louise Bournes. From this union, three children were born: Eva Louise Donaldson, Joyce Marie Greene and Essie Lee Barnes Jr.
He later married the late Elizabeth Barnes, and later married the late Aldine Barnes.
He enjoyed going to church where he served as a Deacon for several years at Calvary Tabernacle C.M.E. Church, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jessie Lee Barnes and grandson Nicolas Regrains.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his four children, Eva Louise Donaldson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joyce Marie Greene (John) of Sun Lake, Arizona, Essie Lee Barnes (Sheila) of Oak Park, Michigan, and Darlene McKnight (Larnell) of Kenner, Louisiana.
He also leaves to cherish his memories, 11 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
