Graveside services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at North Silver Creek Baptist Church in New Hebron for Mr. Roger M. Newsome, 70, who died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2022, at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roger Newsome was born to the late Will and Willie Mae Newsome. He was educated in Jefferson Davis County School District at Oakley Elementary and J. E. Johnson High School. He was employed at Fountain Construction for many years.

He was married to the late Gwendolyn Faye Newsome.

Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by five brothers, Glendale, Atromonia, Curtis, Joe, Marvett and Layvette Newsome; one sister, Marilyn Moore; three rephews, Willie Newsome, Ricky Moore and Patrick Joseph.

He is survived by his son, Michael Daniels of Mt. Olive; one daughter, Shawana Newsome of Prentiss; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Robert (Margie) Newsome of Prentiss; sister, Mavis Dampier of Prentiss and many other relatives and friends.
