JDC and PCS dismissing early today

Due to the threat of hazardous weather today, Prentiss Christian School is releasing at 1 p.m. and the Jefferson Davis County School District will dismiss elementary schools at 11 a.m. and the high school at 11:15 a.m. JDC students will be served a grab and go lunch.
The National Weather Service in Jackson has indicated that severe thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and evening across our area. Damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour and tornadoes are the primary concern. Jefferson Davis County has been upgraded to the moderate risk category with the time frame being from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The county is under the significant risk category for strong winds ahead of the severe storms. Sustained winds of 25-35 miles per hour are expected with frequent gusts of 55 miles per hour or greater. Downed trees and power lines are likely, and travel will be hazardous for high profile vehicles. Timing for this event is from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
