Roosevelt Dampeer

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Taylor Hill Baptist Church in New Hebron, for Mr. Roosevelt Dampeer, 81, of Pinola, who passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at South Central Medical Center in Laurel. Rev. Robert McDuffey officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Roosevelt Dampeer was born to the late Arthur and Lovie Mae Dampeer. He united with Oak Ridge Baptist Church at a young age and attended Lilly Hill Community School and later, New Hymn School in Pinola. He married the late Mattie Lee Minor and relocated to Goulds, Florida where he worked as a truck driver, construction worker and landscaper. In 2003, after retirement, he returned to Mississippi and united with Taylor Hill Baptist Church. He was a faithful member and served in outreach ministry, brotherhood, male choir, prayer band, groundskeeping and maintenance.
Mr. Dampeer was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Dampeer, Josie Walker, Rosie Wilks, Brilla Avery, and Mary Dampeer; brothers, Arthur Dampeer, Lem Davis Dampeer and Tommy Dampeer.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Smith of Charleston, South Carolina and Gladys Wilks of District Heights, Maryland; three grandsons, one sister, Betty Dampeer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one brother, Charles Dampeer of Cleveland; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law and many other relatives and friends.
