Charles Ray Harper

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Ruby K. Johnson Chapel for Mr. Curtis Ray Harper, 60, who died Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his residence. Rev. Henry L. Kelly officiated with interment following in Wheeler Cemetery in Bassfield. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Charles Ray Harper was born to the late Curtis and Mrs. Irish Harper. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Mr. Harper joined St. Paul Baptist Church at a young age; he was a member of the choir. He graduated from Bassfield High School, Class 0f 1979; he was a football player. After high school, he worked for Horace Smalls as a cutter and spreader and was later employed in the oilfields in Houston, Texas. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his mother, Irish Lynn Harper of Bassfield; one brother, Willie Glenn (Eran) Harper of Bassfield; two sisters, Georgia Walker of Hattiesburg, and Barbara Lynn (Ricky) Owens of Virginia; four daughters, LaWanda (David) Thompson, Renatta (Tyrone) McLaurin, Trynecia Booth and Kimyatta (Zee) Collins all of Bassfield; 10 grandchildren; one great-granchild; dear friends, Larry Price, Rosemary Hinton and Eddie Magee and many other relatives and friends.
