Mae Dora Frelix

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at New Zion Baptist Church in Oakvale, for Mrs. Mae Dora Quinn Frelix, 80, who died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello. Rev. Edward Handshaw officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mae Dora Frelix was born to the late J. D. Quinn and Lessie Mae Stephney. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Mattie Mckenzie; she grew up in the Silver Creek/Oakvale area attending school at McCullan Scholl and later her family moved to Foxworth. Mrs. Frelix was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and remained until her demise.
She attended Marion Central High School and graduated in 1961, she met her husband, Floyd Felix in high school. She attended Prentiss Institute Junior College, Missisippi Valley State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She began her teaching career at Sophie Sutton Head start, Beulah Williams, McCullan School (Rod Paige), Monticello and New Hebron, where she retired.
Mrs. Frelix became First Lady after her husband was called into the ministry. She was a member of Church’s Mission Society, Retired Educator’s Association, Lincoln and Adjoining Counties, Pastors and Wives Association, the Mississippi wide Usher Board and Senior Mission #1. She was a member of New Zion Church secretary and Coordinator for Vacation Bible School.
She was preceded in death by her son, LaPatrick Frelix, sister, Issac Foxworth; brothers, Lawrence, David, Kenny Ray, and Laysell Pittman.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Floyd Frelix; son, David (Clarissa) Frelix; daughter, Benita Frelix all of Silver Creek; daughter-in-law, Michaelle Frelix of Crestview, Florida; seven granddaughters; one grandson; three sisters, Jewline Johnson of Columbia , Mattie Holcomb of New Jersey; Rosa (James) Tarver of Columbia; seven brothers, Willie (Joann) Pittman of New Brunswick, New Jersey; Charles (Darlene) Pittman of Highland Park, New Jersey; M.L. (Mary) Pittman of Columbia; Lord (Vanessa) Pittman of North Brunswick, New Jersey; Johnny (Brenda) Pittman of Someset, New Jersey; three sisters-in-law; aunt, Julie Bell Quinn of Jackson and many other relatives and friends.
