Jeptha T. “Jeppy” Rush Jr. was born on Feb. 25, 1941, in Hattiesburg, to Jeptha T. Sr. and Louise Bass Rush. After graduating from Prentiss High School, he went to Millsaps College on a football scholarship and then enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi. Jeppy loved the people of Prentiss, where he served as an alderman for 20 years and was also a member of the Prentiss Chamber of Commerce. In recognition of his public service, Jeppy was placed as a member of the Mississippi Municipal Hall of Fame in 2003. In addition, he was also a member of the Prentiss United Methodist Church and also served as a volunteer at the nursing home. Jeppy was also a partner in Garraways Store in Prentiss, where he would spend many happy hours selling goods to his customers or just swapping tales with his friends as they sat on the feed sacks in the mercantile; all reminiscent of a simpler time. Jeppy touched many lives in his 81 years and will be missed by all who knew him.
Jeppy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Rush.
His memory will forever by cherished by his wife, Connie, who had been a consistent and loving partner for many years before becoming his wife. He also leaves behind his children, whom he loved very much; son, Cole Rush of Prentiss and daughter, Chellie Rush of Wanilla. He is also survived by a brother, Joe (Dannell) Rush of Prentiss and his grandchildren, Callie and Matthew.
