Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Sweetwater CME Church in Bassfield, for Mrs. Rachel Lee Barnes, 71, who passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023, at her residence. Pastor Johnson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rachel Lee Barnes is the daughter of the late Erma Lee Hawthorne and W. J. Magee. She was a member of Sweetwater CME Church. She worked as a cafeteria assistant for many years.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Barnes of Prentiss; daughter, Barbara Talbert (George Talbert) of Petal; son, Timothy A. Barnes of Prentiss; sister, Mary Bass of Hattiesburg; three grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
