Efforts are being made to place a State Historical Marker on the Prentiss Institute Campus with a big donation starting off the drive. Freedom Rider and Civil Rights Activist Thomas Armstrong donated $1,000 to the effort through his non-profit organization Foot Soldiers Journey. Armstrong is also on the PNII Partnership Team. The historical marker will be purchased after approved by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and will give a brief history of the college. Plans are to place the marker on the Longleaf Trace side of the campus, so those passing through will learn of its history.

“This sign will call attention to the historical nature of the property and bring notoriety to visitors in the area,” said Jefferson Davis County Economic Development Director Gary Bass.

Donations are now being accepted for the remainder of the cost of the sign with PayPal using @PrentissInstitute.
