Betty attended the Hathorn School and lived in the Society Hill Community all of her life.  She worked at the Edward Hyman Company in Prentiss for many years.

A country girl at heart, Betty truly loved the old homeplace where she lived and raised her family.

She not only enjoyed her chickens, ducks and geese, but also raised a garden for many years, of which she took pride in.  In addition, she also like to quilt, crochet and work in her flowers.

One of the many ways Betty expressed love for her family was around her dinner table.

Her son relates that his mother was an excellent cook and could make a pan of biscuits in what seemed like minutes.  She will also be remembered for her chicken and dumplings, pecan pies which were made with honey and the fried okra, which her grandchildren absolutely loved.

Betty’s grandchildren will also remember their Nanny as a doting grandmother.  Fond memories, such as the time she bushhogged a path through the sage grass behind the house in order to teach her grandson, Gabe, how to drive, will live on for years to come.

Betty attended the Society Hill Baptist Church in earlier years before her health began to fail.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wilborn and Hazel Dyess; her sister, Samielyne Kirkley and her brothers, Feddie Dyess and Ivan Lee Dyess.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her son, Joe Robbins (Barbara) of Purvis; her longtime companion, Rodger O’Quinn of Oakvale; her granddaughter, Autumn Robbins; her grandson, Gabe Robbins (Manda) and her great-grandson, Calvin Robbins.
