Horace Gerald “PeeWee” Dyess was born on Jan. 9, 1946, in Jefferson Davis County to Arthur Lee and Bonnie Lee Nations Dyess.  “PeeWee” as he was known to all his friends, grew up and has lived in the Greens Creek community all his life. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked to hunt and fish.  In addition to being a logger, he also worked as a road foreman for Jefferson Davis County, Beat 2 and also as an operator for the M G Dyess Company.

Although PeeWee never had any children, he loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own children.  His family remarks that one of their fondest memories is the tradition that every birthday, the birthday niece or nephew would be tricked into going under the house…often to “retrieve puppies” and afterwards, receive their “birthday whipping.”  This is just one of the memories that will remain treasures for years to come for those that loved PeeWee so very much.  He was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, PeeWee is preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew Dyess, Ricky Dyess and his sister, Joyce Faye Miller.

His memory will forever be cherished by his sisters, Doris Nell Daughdrill of Brookhaven, Pam Stephens of Bassfield and his brothers, Willie Ray Dyess, Glen Allen Dyess, Billy Lee Dyess and Aubrey Dyess, all of Carson.  PeeWee also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
