Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Greater Sweet Beulah Church of God in Christ for Mrs. Ruby Jewel Norwood, 78, who died Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at her residence.

Elder James Harrell officiated with interment following in Golden Gate Cemetery in Prentiss. 

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruby Jewel Norwood is the daughter of the late Madison and Maggie Allen. she was a member of Greater Sweet Beulah Church of God in Christ.

Mrs. Norwood married Mr. Johnnie E. Norwood in 1963 and to this union, six children were born.

She graduated from Breland Beauty School in Columbia.

She started her beauty school, Wood’s Cosmetology School in Prentiss. 

After 45 years of providing cosmetology services, she retired. She loved cooking, spending time with family and friends and attending the National Women’s Convention of the Church of God in Christ.

She was preceded in death by two siblings; one daughter and one granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Johnnie E. Norwood Sr.; two sons, Joel and Johnnie E. Norwood Sr.; three daughters, Ruth, Sarah and Myra Norwood all of Prentiss; four sisters, Barbara Allen, Wanda Kylons, Leflora Ross, and Alfreda Allen all of Prentiss; two brothers, Roy Allen of Prentiss and Northing Allen of Lawton, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
