Funeral services for Mrs. Jimmie Layne Lott Brinson were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at Prentiss Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland McMillan officiating. 

Interment followed in the Lowland Cemetery in Bassfield. 

Mrs. Brinson, age 89, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord late Friday night, Feb. 9, 2024, at the Jefferson Davis Extended Care Facility in Prentiss.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

The family received friends Monday evening, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home. 

Serving as pallbearers were Dr. Randy Hathorn, Kim Hathorn, Rusty Highstreet, Kyle Highstreet, Robbie Weeks, Chuck Holland, Jeff Saulters and William King.

Jimmie Layne Lott Brinson was born on Oct. 29, 1934, in Bassfield, to Leslie H. and Jauineese King Lott.  Jimmie Layne, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, grew up in Bassfield and graduated from Bassfield High School, where she played basketball. 

Following high school, she continued her academic journey at Pearl River Junior College. 

Jimmie Layne embarked on her banking career at the Citizens Bank in Columbia, where she devoted one year of service.

Recognizing her passion for finance, she further pursued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she specialized in banking. After completing her studies, Jimmie Layne joined the Bank of Blountville in Prentiss.

Her commitment and hard work led her to retire from Regions Bank (the final successor of the Bank of Blountville) after many devoted years of service.

Notably, her rise from a loan officer to an assistant vice president demonstrated not only her exceptional abilities but also broke barriers at a time when leadership roles were predominantly occupied by men.

Beyond the various accomplishments attained during her professional life, Jimmie Layne possessed a vibrant and magnetic personality that endeared her to everyone she encountered.

Engaging actively within the 20th Century Club of Prentiss, she showcased exemplary organizational skills while dedicating herself to myriad civic events that aimed to benefit Prentiss and its cherished inhabitants—whom she held dear to her heart.

Of her many involvements, it is notable that she was very dedicated to the promotion of the Longleaf Trace and also the beautification of Prentiss.

An impeccable taste for design earned Jimmie Layne acclaim as an exquisite decorator. This passion manifested itself in the beautifully landscaped surroundings of her home—a place where she took immense pride in entertaining guests with grace and style.

Furthermore, Prentiss Baptist Church, which was so very dear to her, benefitted from Jimmie Layne’s active involvement as she diligently served on multiple committees throughout the years.Yet amidst all her achievements and community involvement, Jimmie Layne’s proudest accomplishment was her family. Being a loving mother and grandmother was a role she embraced wholeheartedly, finding immense joy in their presence. 

Jimmie Layne Brinson’s presence will be deeply missed, not only by her family but also by all whose lives she touched.

Her unwavering commitment to excellence, generosity of spirit, and dedication to community service serve as an enduring inspiration to us all.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brinson is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry Brinson, her grandsons, Jeremy Brent Pace, David Wayne Smith and her sisters, Doris G. Hathorn and Janice Highstreet.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Terri Lynn (Eddie) Ryan of St. Francisville, Louisiana and Kippy (Wayne) Smith of Prentiss.  Mrs. Brinson also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jerrick (Kristin) Pace, Emily (Frank) Branson, Adam (Sumer) Ryan, Noah (Melissa) Pace, Josh (Kimmy) Davis, Zach (Hayley) Davis and Brooke (Steven) Avery; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
