Severe weather expected tonight in JDC

Jefferson Davis County is in the enhanced risk category for severe weather today according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. Enhanced risk means damaging winds and tornadoes likely, with a couple of strong tornadoes possible with hail up to quarter size. The severe weather is expected to be in our area from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.
The county is also in an elevated category for strong winds today throughout the day today and into the night. Sustained winds of 25 mph are expected with gusts from 40-50 mph. Downed trees and power lines are possible. Travel may be difficult for high vehicles.
There is a limited threat of flash flooding with this weather event. Two inches of rain, with possible higher amounts, is expected in a short period of time. Localized flash flooding is possible, particularly in low lying and urban areas. Minor river flooding is also a possibility.
