The severe storms that passed through the area April 10 caused damage to utilities and interrupted service to residents in Jefferson Davis County.
A major lightning strike on South Carson Road damaged a quarter-mile of a water main and telephone cable causing outages for those living in the area. Corky Holliman, spokesperson for Lily Rose Water Association, reported that approximately 500 feet of 6-inch and 4-inch water mains and several valves had to be replaced. Twenty-six homes around the Carson area were affected.
“Water systems and companies in the area contacted us to offer much needed help with supplies, equipment and manpower,” said Holliman. “We would like to thank Good Hope Water Association, Town of Bassfield, Carson Central Water Association, Southern Water Solutions, Central Pipe and Supply, Southern Water Works, Dungan Engineering, Jefferson Davis County District 2, Town of Prentiss, Mississippi Rural Water and the Lily Rose Water Association crew for their assistance.”
Water pressure was partially restored Friday evening, and fully restored by Saturday afternoon. Holliman said without the additional help, it would have taken much longer to restore full service and that Lily Rose Water Association appreciates the patience and understanding from those customers affected.
