Hazel Mae Brown

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Monticello, for Mrs. Hazel Mae “Ma Brown” Brown, 83, who died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at her residence.

Rev. Leonard Smith officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hazel Brown was born to the late Josh and Maggie Reese in Knoxville, Tennessee. She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she was a teacher and later retired. She met and married the late Frank Brown Jr.

She joined Christlike Pleasant Green Faith Baptist Church where she served on the missionary board and sung in the choir. She later moved to Oahu, Hawaii where she joined AMR Chapel Gospel Service and became a mother of the church, Sunday School and Vacation Bible school teacher, youth choir assistant, head of usher board and member of hospitality ministry.

Mrs. Brown later moved to Monticello, Mississippi where she become “Spiritual Nurse”. She joined Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the missionary board, treasure, and senior choir.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Delphine Reese; sister, Martha Ann Williams, granddaughter, Tynisha Scoot, grandson, Tyshem and great-grand son, T’Ron Freeman.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracey (Leonard) Smith; Frank (Felicia) Brown III; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Waxie Sutton; Hanai daughters, Dr. P. K. Roberts and Cherie Aderhold; adopted daughter, Silvia Hood; Hanai son, Dr. Walter (Malikita) Harrison; dear friend, Ruby Peyton; and Hanai son, Bobbie Peyton and many other relatives and friends.
