Funeral services for Mrs. Jeri Lashley Landry were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Brady Cemetery. Dr. French Tripp officiated. Mrs. Landry, age 90, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Monday morning, Aug. 5, 2024, at the Jefferson Davis Extended Care Facility in Prentiss. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

The family received friends Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.  Calling hours also resumed Thursday morning, beginning at 8 a.m. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Landry was carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers; they included Logan Potter, Drake Williamson, Landry Williamson, Gavin King, Cody White and Landon King. James Earl Dickins served as an honorary pallbearer.

Jeri Lashley Landry was born on July 28, 1934, in Louisville, to James Talmadge and Theolya Rosamond Lashley.  Some 69 years ago, Jeri embarked on a journey of love and partnership with her late husband Joseph A. Landry Sr.  Together, they faced challenges and joys, eventually settling in Prentiss where they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and shared aspirations.  Amidst the aftermath of Hurricane Camille’s devastation along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the couple embarked on a new adventure in the convenience store business and for several years, owned and operated Chek-A-Sak in Prentiss. In addition to operating the store, she also dedicated herself to serving others. For more than 16 years she served as Deputy Circuit Clerk for Jefferson Davis County, where she demonstrated unwavering commitment and integrity. Her spirit of service extended even more when she was elected Circuit Clerk after retirement, exemplifying her love for the community she loved so dearly.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jeri’s true joy lay in her family. She had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she endearingly called “Sugar.” Hosting family gatherings during Christmas and Thanksgiving brought her immense happiness. An excellent cook, her family will long remember her specialties, including her famous “Dirty Rice”.  A member of Leaf Avenue Church of Prentiss (formerly Prentiss United Methodist Church), Mrs. Landry was also a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Mississippi Federation of Women’s Clubs as well as the 20th Century Club of Prentiss.

Mrs. Landry is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Joseph A. Landry Sr.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Rebecca L. Williamson (Don) of Prentiss, Sandra L. Mathis of Brandon; son, Joseph A. Landry Jr. (Zaunda) of Hattiesburg and her sisters, Patti Estes of Prentiss and Karen Lashley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The legacy of their Grandmother will also live on through her grandchildren, Brock Williamson, Kane Williamson, Leslie King, Shea Mathis, Kelsea White; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
