Candlelight vigil and balloon release held in memory of JDCSH student

A candlelight vigil was held Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. on the JDCHS football field in memory of JDCHS junior Domanick Ramon Stewart.

Stewart, 16, was found dead on J. E. Johnson Road in Prentiss Aug. 6.

A balloon release was held the following afternoon at the courtyard on the JDCHS campus.

Stewart played football and and baseball and ran track for the Jaguars.

“He was an outstanding student athlete in multiple sports, and he was never in trouble,” said Jefferson Davis County Superintendent Ike Haynes.

A memorial service will be held for Stewart on Aug. 18 at Lake Jeff Davis at 4 p.m.

Visitation will be held Aug. 17 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

Stewart is the son of Domanick Stewart and Sylvia Hawthorne and attended Prentiss First Baptist Church.

“He is gone, but he will never ever be forgotten,” said Haynes.
