Monroe Strickland Jr.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024 at Point Pleasant Baptist Church in Mt. Olive, for Mr. Monroe “Tookie” Strickland Jr., 53, who died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 at his residence.
Rev. Johnny Mosely officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Monroe Strickland Jr. was born to the late Monroe Sr. and Ola Hubbard Strickland.
At an early age, he joined Point Pleasant Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School and was a Trustee.
He was a 1989 graduate of Prentiss High School. He was an independent truck driver, “Golddigger” with Rayborn Trucking in Jayess.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and loved to deer hunt.
He was married to Tarshell S. Thompson and to this union, two children were born, Tyja and Tyus.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife, Tarshell Strickland; two daughters, Daniella (Justin) Strickland of Madison; Tyja Strickland of Houston, Texas; three sons, Gerald (Tiyana) Berry of Columbia; Kendrick Ducksworth of Hattiesburg, and Tyus Strickland of Prairie View, Texas; four sisters, Bobboe Fay (Johnny) West of Mt. Olive; elaine (Jimmie) Funchess of Carson; Alesia (Bernard) Lofton of Florence; and Patricia Ann (Patrick) Walker of Pearl; one brother, David A. Strickland of Florence; seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
