Excitement was in the air last week in Prentiss and Bassfield as both towns celebrated Christmas with parades and other festivities.
The Prentiss parade was held Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. led by Grand Marshal James Russell Dumas Jr.
The theme for this year’s parade was ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
The parade was sponsored by the Jefferson Davis County Chamber of Commerce.
Prizes were awarded for the top three entries in the parade with the House of Refuge winning first place. Second place was awarded to Donna Buckley School of Dance. Kinetic was awarded third place with honorable mention going to Toys for Tots.
Vendors filled Faler Park in Bassfield for the annual Christmas in the Park on Dec. 14. The parade was held at 2 p.m. with Evan Price honored as the Grand Marshal.
Christmas in the Park offered an array of activities and attractions for all ages including train rides, photos with Santa, and a mechanical bull that was the hit of the day.
Jimmy Kerley was the lucky winner of Split-the-Pot.
At dusk, the celebration concluded with a Christmas fireworks display.
Over 25 food and merchandise vendors were also part of the Christmas event.
Sponsors were Dungan Engineering, Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors, Dr. Randy Hathorn, Bassfield Medical Center, Windstream Kinetic, Platinum Sponsor, Colleen and Ray Powell and A.F. Carraway, Bassfield Tire and Auto, Newpointe Pharmacy, DFI, King Lumber, Cheryl Bullock, J & J Market, Ken Roberts and Will Hendry.
“This event would not have been possible without the dedicated Town of Bassfield employees, the board of alderman, volunteers, vendors and sponsors,” said Bassfield Mayor Angie Ladner.
