Joa Oatis

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at South Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Prentiss, for Mrs. Joa Oatis, 66, who passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, at her residence.

Rev. Robert Collins officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She is the daughter of the late James and Dora Powers.

She was a member of South Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Oatis was a former Certified Nurse Assistant who loved flowers, shopping, gaming on her tablet and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbert Lee Oatis Sr. of Prentiss; son, Wilbert Lee Oatis Jr. of Prentiss; daughter, Arica Oatis of Biloxi; brothers, Henry L. Powers, George Powers and Stephen Powers all of Mt. Olive; Douglas Powers of Arlington, Texas; Wayne Powers of Richmond Hill, Georgia; Charles Powers of Hattiesburg; sister, Alisa Watts of Hattiesburg; Gloria Robinson of St. Petersburg, Florida; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.

Evanglist Rhodes

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at North Pleasant Hill M. B. Church in New Hebron, for Mr. Evanglist Rhodes, 73, who passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Rev. Moses Johnson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rhodes is the son of the late Willie James and Evelena Rhodes. He was a member of North Pleasant Hill M. B. Church. He was a member of Oak Ridge Masonic Lodge #426. Mr. Rhodes was a retiree of Mississippi Department of Transportation. He loved all sports, gaming on i-pad and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Lartha Rhodes of New Hebron; sons, Evander Rhodes and Mitchell Rhodes both of New Hebron; James Rhodes of Petal; daughter, Lakesia Cunningham of New Hebron; brothers, Mirrett Rhodes of Hattiesburg; Michael Rhodes of New Hebron; Richard Rhodes of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Edell Feazell, Evelyn McDuffey, and Debbie Jasper, and Queen Esther Pittman all of New Hebron; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
