Deacon Charley James Butler

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Silver Creek, for Deacon Charley James Butler, who transitioned into the presence of the Lord on Feb. 7, 2025.

Rev. Roy Thompson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is the son of the late Robert and Gary Butler. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.

Deacon Butler retired as a Line Forman on September 2003 from South Mississippi Electric Power Association in Hattiesburg.

His love for the Lord was shown through his love for his family, church family, Springhill Baptist Church community and community involvement with young men and women.

He was a servant enthusiastic about making a difference in thecommunity and young people’s lives.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta Butler of Hattiesburg; daughters, Angela Butler of Ridgeland; Annessia Butler-Dawson of Hattiesburg; adopted son, Frederick Tat of Stephenville, Texas; brother, Howard Butler of Prentiss; sisters, Arvellia Williams of Prentiss; Essie Sacks, Bessie Durrah, and Mable Mitchell Azusa all of California; seven grandchildren; three godchildren and many other relatives and friends.
