Shooting in Prentiss leaves one injured

An evening gathering turned violent Tuesday night when gunfire erupted at a residence on Etta Street in Prentiss, leaving one man seriously injured and prompting an ongoing police investigation.
According to Prentiss Police Chief Richard Browning, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots ring out as people were socializing, with many individuals moving in and out of the area at the time.
One male victim was struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries. The gunshot victim was brought to the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital and due to the severity of his condition, was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. The victim is reported to be in stable condition.
“We believe there are people who saw something or know something,” said Browning. “We need the community to come forward and help us bring accountability to those responsible for this violence,” he said.
