The Director of Food Service for the Jefferson Davis County School District, Cindy Daley, was killed Saturday morning in an automobile accident.
The one-car accident happened at 9:30 a.m. on Granby Road in Prentiss. Road conditions due to inclement weather were reported as the cause of the crash.
As an example of her willingness to go above and beyond, Daley was also named both Jefferson Davis County High School and Jefferson Davis County School District 2021 Parent of the Year just two weeks ago.
“We are deeply saddened at the loss of Ms. Cindy Daley,” said JDC Superintendent Dexter Jordan.
“She worked tirelessly and selflessly in her efforts to feed the children of our district, often working long and stressful hours behind the scenes to make sure the job was done.”
“Ms. Daley was not only an advocate for her own child, but all children. She never failed to greet others, regardless of who they were, with kindness and a smile.”
“Her quiet strength will certainly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family now and in the days to come.”
“She was absolutely the best,” said Jefferson Davis High School Principal Carrie Hammond Walker.
“No matter if you wanted to laugh or vent, she was a listening ear. She will truly be missed.”
A funeral was held Tuesday morning at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss with burial following in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Carson.
“She was a jewel to our district and to all of us at JDCHS.”
