A one-car accident on Highway 13 North just outside of Prentiss left one dead and two seriously injured late Sunday afternoon. According to a witness at the scene, a maroon Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria was headed south and passed a car on a hill and double yellow lines. A Toyota sedan driven by Milton Fletcher, of Magnolia Drive in Prentiss, was headed north and went off the roadway to avoid a head-on collision. The car the spun around and hit a driveway culvert backwards before landing on its roof. Killed in the accident was passenger James Sands Sr. of Hartzog Magee Road in Prentiss. Douglas Bryant MacAuthur, of Mt. Zion Road in Prentiss, was also injured and airlifted from the scene and transported to UMMC in Jackson by Rescue 7. Fletcher was transported by ambulance to Jefferson Davis Community Hospital and later transferred to Forrest General Hospital for surgery. Authorities say he is paralyzed from the waist down.
