Parade planned honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade is scheduled for Jan. 20 in Bassfield. The parade will begin at noon.

Sister Dorothy Middleton has been chosen as the grand marshal.

All churches, businesses, civic clubs, schools and individuals are invited to participate in this grand event with the theme, “Protecting freedom, justice and democracy in the spirit of Non-Violence.”

The parade is sponsored by the Jefferson Davis County branch of the NAACP.

All entry forms must be received by Jan. 17. Entries can be dropped off at the Prentiss Public Library and the Dr. Frank L. Leggett Public Library in Bassfield.

Awards will be given for first, second and third place float winners.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community to honor the life, legacy and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Reese.

“Whether you walk, march or ride, you will make a powerful statement of unity and community spirit,” she said.

Line-up for parade with begin at 11 a.m.  behind G. W. Carver Elementary School.

The parade will end at Faler Park where refreshments will be served immediately following the parade.
