Absentee voting is now open for this year’s municipal elections for the Town of Prentiss and Town of Bassfield.

Prentiss City Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. to cast absentee ballots, including the lunch hour.

Bassfield City Hall is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. until noon on Friday.

Both city halls will be open the two Saturdays before the election, May 24 and May 31, from 8 a.m. until noon for absentee voting. The deadline for absentee voting is May 31 at noon.

Absentee ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before election day and received by the municipal clerk’s office within five business days.

Candidates in Prentiss will run as Independent candidates.

Tony Waits is running unopposed for Mayor of Prentiss.

Candidates for the Prentiss Board of Aldermen are Rhonda Bayles, Holley Kruger Cochran, Mike Curtis, Willard Davis, Rudolph (Rudy) McNease, Paige McRaney, Hal “Moochie” Speights, Randy Stamps and Rebecca (Becky) Williamson.

Candidates in Bassfield will also run as Independent candidates.

Bassfield Mayor Angie Speights Ladner is running unopposed.

Bassfield Board of Aldermen candidates are Lisa L. Blount, William Harold Daley, Erin Lee Dyess, William M. Hendry, Pam Puckett Johnson, Johnny Kendall Roberts and James Edgar Speck.

Each board is made up of five aldermen. Voters may select up to five candidates on the ballot.

If you would like to register to vote in the municipal election, you can do so at Prentiss City Hall, Bassfield City Hall and the Jefferson Davis County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

The deadline to register to vote in the June election is May 5.

Municipal elections for Bassfield and Prentiss will be held June 3. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
